I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.
— Maya Angelou

It wasn’t too long ago, the first time I picked up a crochet hook and started to teach myself how to crochet. I remember the easiest part of the process was the beginning and then it would take me hours to finally know what I was trying to do. The hardest part about starting something is starting.

There were times when I wanted to give up, because it was so hard to get out what I was trying to get out, but I kept telling myself “don’t give up, you can do this.” So I tried and tried until I felt so much relief and joy that I got it done. When I finally knew what I was doing, the first thing I made myself crochet was a headband using blue and white yarn. The more things I made the more I loved crocheting and the more I came up with different ideas of what was possible, and that is when I started making crop tops.

I know things are not easy in this world but, I can tell you guys this; never give up or be too scared to try new things, because whatever you want to do or try out can change your life forever or change someone else’s life. Don’t let people put you down, because you don’t have to be about what other people are about. Just be happy being about your own thing.

Ladies I hope that all of you out there know that you are beautiful and important, because all of you guys are!

Don’t ever let haters put you down.

It has been incredible watching this girl bloom into this talented, creative person. She truly has inspired me to go out into this world and do what I love. As her sister, I have had the privilege to watch her create every single piece of her clothing line and it never ceases to amaze me how determined she is. She spends hours creating these clothes. What still gets me is the fact that when she started out, she never thought of selling her clothes. She made them just for the sake of creating and expressing herself. I have also had the opportunity to model her clothing and I have never felt more comfortable in my body than I did while wearing her clothes.  I felt beautiful and that’s how every girl should feel when they choose to wear something. One of my favorite things about the clothes she makes is the fact that anyone can wear them. Whether you like to dress up or keep it on the casual side, you are able to express your own sense of style by blending it with the crop tops. So, Ismarie this is my ode to you. You are talented, inspiring and beautiful. Keep on following your dream and go kick some ass. I’ll be there to support you through it all, that’s what sisters are there for, right? Go get ‘em girl!

You are such a passionate person, girl let’s be honest I don’t even know where to start but I’m going to say I’m very proud of you. I didn’t see you go through the process of making the clothes but I know you have a lot of patience to create something so beautiful. I remember when you showed me your first piece I was so amazed by what you did and I even tried to make something myself, girl let me tell you; I didn’t have as much patience as you. I was very thankful that I was able to practice my photography skills and also able to model some of your clothes.

Like Melissa Etheridge say “you are more powerful than you know; you are beautiful just as you.”

Thank you for letting me be part of this journey with you, no matter what I will be here with you through the good times and the bad times. I love you girl, go show everyone who the boss and don’t let anyone say you can’t do anything, just tell them to GTFO,

Proud of you Cuz

When I first saw the crop top I was going to model for Ismarie’s clothing shoot I got nervous. I immediately thought of all my insecurities and I was concerned about hiding this or that part of my body. However once I put it on I realized the magic crocheted into it.  My favorite thing about the design of her crop tops is that they are made so that you can wear them without a bra. The top is lightweight, breathable and perfect for a hot day at the beach.  They were comfortable to wear, fit snugly to my body and the hand-made, one of a kind feel gave the photographs a really sweet 70’s vibe.

I had a very hands-off approach to this entire shoot and Ismarie was designated the creative director for the entire thing. She chose every look for every model and took on the role as the hair and makeup artist as well. This girl had control over every single element of how this shoot looked.

When we were in the planning stages she was sure she wanted high-waisted pants and skirts and after I saw the photos I saw that she had already established her own sense of style around her designs. Working with these girls from beginning to end on this shoot was a complete creative joy because they brought all of their own gifts and worked together to bring Ismaries designs to life and they are just getting started.
