Tristan & Michael: Chicago Engagement Session

Love stories are often characterized by their unique twists and turns, and Tristan and Michael's love story is no exception. Originally scheduled to tie the knot in 2020, they found themselves navigating the unpredictable tides of the year that threw everyone's plans into disarray. But love, as we all know, endures.

Tristan called me with excitement in his voice, sharing the new wedding date they had set. As we discussed their plans, he made a spontaneous decision that would set the stage for a truly remarkable experience. While on the phone, he booked flights to Chicago, and the theme was clear: "still being here, even after what felt like the end of the world."

In preparation for the engagement session, we had a FaceTime call to choose their outfits. It was during this conversation that the magic truly began to unfold. Tristan and Michael decided on gold blazers, and this choice inspired me. As if the universe conspired to add depth to the story, I saw that Kiam @iamkiam was currently showcasing an art installation and Kiam prominently features gold in their work.

This art installation, known as "The Garden of Decay," is within Navy Pier's Crystal Gardens. This enchanting 1-acre indoor garden, typically a free and open space for the public, was scheduled to close its doors. The Garden of Decay was to be the grand finale, the last event hosted with the plants that have lived in the garden for years. The exhibit was designed to take visitors on a journey through the five stages of grief.

The layers of meaning were profound and deeply moving. As the day unfolded, it became evident that we were part of something magical. The art installation perfectly encapsulated the theme Tristan and Michael had chosen.

I also want to thank the show director, Nina, for her invaluable contributions in making these photos possible and for orchestrating an unforgettable experience.

I have so much gratitude for Tristan and Michael’s resilience, for holding on to the belief that, even in the midst of decay, there can be new beginnings.
